The regional training seminar for WOAH National Focal Points on Animal Welfare in Europe was held on 16-17 November 2022 as an online event. The overall objective of the seminar was to build the capacity of Focal Points on animal welfare to better assume their responsibilities and obligations as advisors to the Delegate in their respective countries.
This seminar aimed at providing participants with the knowledge to support them in their role as the National Focal Points in the standard-setting process and in implementing the WOAH international standards. During the meeting, participants were updated with information on the Global Animal Welfare Strategy (including standard setting and outcomes of global forums) and the Regional Animal Welfare Platform for Europe.
Specific topics addressed during this seminar covered animal welfare during transport, dog population management, animal welfare during disasters and the role of the Collaborating Centres and partners in support of WOAH activities.
The seminar also allowed experience-sharing and discussion on future regional animal welfare activities.
