The OIE Sub-Regional Representation for Central Asia was established in Astana, Kazakhstan, following an agreement signed on 17th October 2013 between the OIE and the Government of Kazakhstan. First established as an OIE Sub-Regional Foot and Mouth Disease Coordination Office in Astana, the assignment of a Sub-Regional Representation for Central Asia status was approved by the Council in May 2017, in recognition of the extension and usefulness of the activities of the Unit beyond the control of FMD. The current Subregional Representative is Dr Mereke Taitubayev.
