Global challenges involving wildlife health, such as emerging infectious diseases at the human-livestock-environment interface, human-wildlife interactions, biodiversity loss, climate change and natural disasters, are still posing public and animal health risks. The WOAH is addressing challenges involving wildlife health by implementing the WOAH Wildlife Health Framework. The engagement of the WOAH National Focal Points (NFP) on wildlife remains one of the outcome elements of the framework.
The regional webinar for WOAH National Focal Points on wildlife in Europe was organised to maintain an interaction with the NFP for Wildlife in the region, provide them with an update on relevant WOAH activities and engage them in planned activities.
The main presented topic covered: early education and early prediction at the human-wildlife diseases interface, FAO and WHO approach to wildlife diseases surveillance in a One Health perspective, WWF survey on exotic wild meat trade, WAHIS wildlife disease reporting system, WOAH wildlife surveillance system and updates on recent and planned WOAH activities.
In total, 47 participants joined this online meeting, including speakers, WOAH RR/SRR representatives, FAO and WHO experts and WOAH staff.
