Protecting the health of all must continue even with the challenges of a pandemic

On the 5th of March 2021, Dr Monique Eloit, OIE Director General, met with the Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, Mr Dmitry Patrushev, by videoconference.

The two sides congratulated themselves on the continuation of their effective collaboration despite the global expansion of the coronavirus infection in 2020. OIE expressed gratitude for the support offered but the Russian side, both in the form of timely annual and extraordinary contributions and continued participation in OIE scientific and technical events.

Dr Eloit acknowledged the nomination of a new Russian Delegate to the OIE, Dr Konstantin Savenkov, and encouraged him to actively participate in OIE standard setting process, together with other Eastern European Members of the OIE Regional Commission for Europe. She thanked Russia for the support to the OIE Regional Representation in Moscow and pointed out the importance of the effective technical collaboration between OIE and the Rosselkhoznadzor

Mr. Patrushev reconfirmed interest for obtaining OIE disease free status for FMD and other animal diseases. Extension of activities of OIE Collaboration Centers located in Russia were discussed and their role to support OIE Member countries, along with programmes for fighting against priority transboundary animal diseases in the region.

Both sides agree to continue with fruitful collaboration, and that protecting the health of animals and of all, in line with One Health concept, must be a priority to avoid the impacts of this and any future pandemics.
