The Samarkand State University of Veterinary Medicine, Livestock and Biotechnologies has expressed its formal gratitude to the WOAH Sub-Regional Representation for Central Asia (SRR Astana) for its sustained cooperation and professional support in advancing veterinary workforce development and strengthening the quality of veterinary education in the region. This collaboration has contributed significantly to the University’s progress in aligning with international standards and enhancing its institutional capacity.
Over the past years, Samarkand University has been an active participant in initiatives implemented under the WOAH Regional Project on Veterinary Workforce Development, including regional consultations, technical exchanges and the Regional Conference on Harmonisation of Veterinary Education, held in 2025 in Almaty. During this conference, the Rector of the University formally expressed the institution’s strategic ambition to pursue international accreditation and to position the University as a future WOAH Collaborating Centre on Veterinary Education and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) in Central Asia.
A key milestone of this cooperation was achieved during the most recent General Assembly of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE), where Samarkand State University was officially granted Associate Member status. The certificate was formally presented during the 39th EAEVE General Assembly in Barcelona, Spain, marking a historic step forward for the University and for veterinary education in Central Asia. In his address, the President of EAEVE underlined the importance of this achievement and highlighted the growing engagement between EAEVE and veterinary education institutions in the region.
In a formal letter addressed to WOAH SRR Astana, the Rector, Professor Yunosov Khudaynazar Beknazarovich, expressed sincere appreciation for the active engagement of WOAH in facilitating dialogue, sharing international experience, and supporting institutional development throughout the EAEVE accreditation process. He emphasised that WOAH’s guidance on modern approaches to veterinary workforce development and regional cooperation played a crucial role in helping the University better understand and implement international requirements and standards in veterinary education.
This achievement reflects Samarkand University’s strong commitment to educational excellence, scientific development and internationalisation. Associate membership in EAEVE opens new opportunities for academic mobility, international partnerships, curriculum modernisation and quality assurance, benefiting students, faculty members and researchers alike.
WOAH warmly welcomes this success and looks forward to further strengthening collaboration with Samarkand State University and other academic institutions across Central Asia, the Caucasus and Eastern Europe, in support of sustainable veterinary workforce development, high-quality education and resilient animal health systems.
