Inside the FAO/OIE/WHO Tripartite mission to Tajikistan to promote the “One Health” approach and monitor the implementation of the multisectoral National Action Plan (NAP) to Tackle Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Tajikistan (2018 – 2022) and build capacity on AMR and promote the rational antimicrobials use (AMU). The tripartite FAO/OIE/WHO organized a meeting in Dushanbe, Tajikistan in the framework of the Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF) project “One Health” Capacity Building on Support priority Actions on Combating Antimicrobial Resistance in Tajikistan.
The meeting, held on the 17th of May, brought high-level officials from different agencies involved in the implementation of NAP against AMR-related activities. The representatives of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Public Health, and the Committee for Food Security were present to raise the importance of the AMR issue and the implementation of the AMR NAP in Tajikistan.
Since the MPTF project uses the “One Health” approach aimed at the capacity building to support priority actions for combatting antimicrobial resistance in Tajikistan. Different stakeholders participated in the event. The audience included farmer representatives, academics, Directors of Laboratories, and Veterinary Associations. It was the second meeting with the members of the National Multisectoral Coordination Group responsible for the implementation of the National Action Plan for 2018-2022.
The MPTF activities already undertaken have been shared, and the information usable for addressing the global concern on antimicrobial resistance at the national level has been discussed. Discussion related to understanding the risks of the development of AMR, the practice of using antimicrobials, and challenges to implementing a better control on the use of antibiotics has been the main parts of the meeting.
The work done by the OIE under the MPTF project with the translation in Tajik of the OIE materials has been presented. All participants, authorities, and international organizations representatives have discussed the AMR activities ongoing in the country and the perspective possible to develop a set of recommendations that will contribute to the development of the next National Action Plan on AMR for the second round of five years (2023 – 2027). At the meeting, the group declared the resolution of the Government, which indicated all concerns and proposals for the implementation of the NAP for AMR in the state.
