Over 200 participants from 57 countries, attended the WOAH webinar on African Swine Fever (ASF) in wild boars, held on December 12, 2024. The webinar is part of the WOAH training programme to strengthen Veterinary Services’ competencies for improved biosecurity practices during wild boar hunting and, more broadly, for improved disease surveillance and control. This engaging one-hour session spotlighted the epidemiological situation of ASF in the European region and provided actionable strategies to strengthen biosecurity practices during wild boar hunting.
A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of WOAH’s new eLearning module on ASF in wild boars. This self-paced, 3-hour eModule, now live on the WOAH eLearning Platform, equips learners with the necessary competencies to manage ASF surveillance systems, apply biosecurity measures, and develop eradication strategies. The special focus is dedicated to supporting the veterinary workforce in fostering cooperation among hunters and local communities to apply biosecurity measures able to reduce the risk of disease spreading. Designed for experts, the eModule includes a comprehensive toolbox and resources to tackle real-world challenges.

This webinar and the newly launched eModule represent WOAH’s unwavering commitment to equipping professionals with the competencies needed to safeguard animal health worldwide. WOAH encourages all participants to explore the newly launched ASF in Wild Boars eModule and become “influencers” by spreading the word about this vital learning opportunity. To ensure even broader access, the module will be localised into French, Spanish, and Russian, with these versions set to launch in early 2025.
