11th Platform stakeholders’ consultation meeting

The 11th Stakeholders’ Consultation Meeting of the WOAH Platform on Animal Welfare for Europe took place in Brussels, Belgium, on 24 June 2026. 

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the implementation of the Platform’s 4th Action Plan (2024–2026), discuss ongoing and planned activities across its five priority areas, and consult stakeholders on the development of the 5th Action Plan for 2027–2029. Stakeholders also shared updates on their own activities, experiences and future initiatives, highlighting collaboration and progress in advancing animal welfare across Europe.  

 During the morning, discussions focused on the Platform’s five priority areas: 

  • Animal transport 
  • Welfare of animals during slaughter 
  • Dog population management 
  • Disaster management 
  • Working equids 

In addition, participants reviewed the Platform’s governance, discussed the development of the 5th Action Plan (2027–2029), and received an update about Global WOAH animal welfare activities. 

 

The afternoon session featured a round-table discussion dedicated to stakeholder perspectives on animal welfare in Europe. Participants presented recent achievements, upcoming initiatives and examples of successful actions carried out within the Platform’s priority areas, fostering dialogue and the exchange of experiences among participants.  

Stakeholders and partner organisations present at the meeting: AAP Animal Advocacy and Protection, AnimalhealthEurope, Copa-Cogeca, Eurogroup for Animals (Belgium), European Commission, European Parliament, Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (Belgium), Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Nestle Purina PetCare Europe, UK/RSPCA, The Donkey Sanctuary, UECBV, Spain/World Horse Welfare.
