To celebrate this day, the role of a veterinarian’s profession in the modern world was once again highlighted at a meeting held at the National Food Agency of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia.
Dr. Vasili Basiladze, Deputy Head of the National Food Agency and Delegate of the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), presented a report to the representatives of the non-governmental sector and donor organizations about the measures taken to ensure animal health.
Veterinarians from the National Food Agency conduct more than 6 million veterinary treatments each year, including free vaccinations, identification, registration, diagnosis, and prevention of animal diseases.
“Contribution of each veterinarian is important in maintaining animal health and epizootic welfare both in Georgia and in the whole region. I want to congratulate my colleagues on their professional day! Today, the world is facing great challenges, including in the field of animal health, which is directly related to human health. In this situation, it is important to know how to respond to these challenges and to carry out reforms which will help us to have young qualified staff. “- Dr. Vasili Basiladze mentioned.
World Veterinary Day was celebrated in the regions of Georgia as well. In order to popularize the profession outstanding veterinarians were awarded and products of animal origin were exhibited as well.
