Key accomplishments within the five priority areas:
– Animal Welfare During Slaughter: Led the development of an e-module and training materials to enhance veterinary personnel’s knowledge and skills while also strengthening the understanding of training needs, including stakeholder engagement.
– Transport of Animals: Strengthened mechanisms for regional collaboration and coordination on animal welfare through the established network of national contact points on long-distance transportation. Continued to expand cooperation beyond Europe to include North Africa, the Middle East, and, more recently, the Americas.
– Dog Population Management: Enhanced collaboration, experience sharing and expertise development while establishing actionable short-term priorities for WOAH Members in the Balkans.
– Animal Welfare During Natural Disasters: Improved communication and collaboration among veterinary services across Europe, highlighting the importance of collective power for enhanced competencies and preparedness.
– Welfare of Working Equids: Emphasised the need for stronger collaboration among WOAH Members and stakeholders, agreeing on actionable next steps towards improvement of the welfare of working equids.
