The 8th meeting of the Standing Group of Experts on Rabies for Europe (SGE RAB8), under the GF-TADs umbrella, will take place on 28 and 29 September 2026 in Brussels, Belgium.
Established in 2019, the SGE RAB serves as a regional platform bringing together countries and partner organisations to strengthen cooperation towards the elimination of rabies in Europe. Its primary objective is to coordinate oral rabies vaccination (ORV) activities in wild carnivores, improve surveillance, and support a harmonised regional approach to rabies prevention and control.
SGE RAB8 follows the 7th Standing Group of Experts on Rabies for Europe, held in Belgrade, Serbia, in September 2025 as part of the First GF-TADs Conference of Standing Groups of Experts on Priority Transboundary Animal Diseases. During that meeting, participants reviewed Members’ progress towards rabies elimination between 2017 and 2024, discussed plans for 2025–2026, and examined strategies to prevent rabies re-emergence in Central Europe.
Building on these outcomes, SGE RAB8 will provide an opportunity for Members to exchange experiences, assess recent developments, discuss emerging challenges, and further reinforce regional collaboration to safeguard achievements and prevent disease resurgence.
Further information, including the agenda and logistical details, will be shared in due course.
