On the 9th December over 20 members and observers met for the 15th Steering Group meeting of the Animal Welfare Platform for Europe (SG15).
During the meeting, several important topics were presented. The speakers provided updates on outcomes of the 29th Regional Conference for Europe, the state of play of the OIE Platform activities, and the development of the Third Action Plan (2021-2023). Intense discussions were held on the activities planned for the Balkans related to both stray dog control and to disaster management. Update from the OIE Collaborating Center was given in particular for the stray dog self-assessment tools. The discussion also highlighted the value of the upcoming interregional whole journey scenario workshop planned for the first quarter of 2021. From the OE Headquarters, participants were provided with an insight into the latest developments in the chapters on animal welfare.
The European Commission (DG SANTE) provided an overview of their ongoing and planned activities on animal welfare. The participants were also provided with a short overview of the activities of the International Society for Applied Ethology.
