The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) announces with deep sadness the sudden passing of Dr Mario Latini, Veterinary Technical Assistant seconded by the Government of Italy, who served the Organisation with dedication and professionalism since June 2019.
Dr Latini devoted more than 25 years to public veterinary medicine in Italy and internationally, building a distinguished career spanning animal health, food safety, public health, and environmental protection. A strong advocate of the One Health approach, he worked across sectors to promote the health of both animals and humans.
A respected expert, he authored over 50 scientific publications and led multiple research projects funded by the Italian Ministry of Health. His international experience included contributions in Europe and beyond, as well as work with FAO and the European Commission on technical guidelines.
At WOAH, Dr Latini made a significant contribution to aquatic animal health and One Health activities in Europe and Central Asia. Based in Astana, he played a key role in strengthening regional cooperation and partnerships, including with FAO, WHO, and other stakeholders. He was actively involved in major initiatives such as PVS Aquatic missions, laboratory twinning, the CentralAqua project, and Quadripartite collaboration.
Dr Latini will be remembered as a dedicated professional, a valued colleague, and a committed advocate of One Health. His loss is deeply felt across the WOAH community and among all those who had the privilege to work with him.
WOAH extends its sincere condolences to his family, friends, and colleagues. His contribution and legacy will be remembered with gratitude and respect.
May he rest in peace.
