As part of the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan to France, the Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Karashukeyev met with the Deputy Director General Dr Montserrat Arroyo and discussed further cooperation with the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH, founded as OIE).
The Minister informed WOAH of Kazakhstan’s commitment and current work towards regaining an official FMD-free status for the northwestern zones of the country where vaccination is practised.
Yerbol Karashukeyev also highlighted the improvement and strengthening of the national veterinary service through the application of WOAH tools and recommendations. “A strengthened and expanded state veterinary network has been established, the separation of control and surveillance and implementation functions have been carried out, and the identification and movement of farm animals have been regulated. To coordinate the educational system, three agricultural higher educational institutions that produce experts in veterinary have been placed under the supervision of the Ministry of Agriculture,” said the Minister.
The issues of further interaction between the Ministry and WOAH in the scientific sphere were also discussed. In particular, the support to be provided by WOAH experts to the Kazakh Scientific Research Veterinary Institute in updating the mechanisms and strategy for the control of highly dangerous animal diseases.
