The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) has developed in 2020 the Wildlife Health Programme, a global project to address wildlife health challenges from the basis of the One Health concept, recognizing that the health of humans, domestic and wild animals, plants, and the wider environment are closely linked and inter-dependent (OHHLEP 2022). In this framework, WOAH launched the Wildlife Health Framework (2021 – 2025) to enhance the capacity of WOAH Members to prevent, detect and respond to disease risks at the human-animal-environment interface, and to strengthen wildlife health surveillance systems, including along the wildlife trade value chain. Building on the successes and lessons learnt from the Wildlife Health Framework, a Wildlife Health Strategy was developed for the period 2026-2030. This global strategy adopts a more focused, delivery-oriented and outcome-driven approach.
In alignment with the global objectives, in the European region, different activities and initiatives to address the priority needs in terms of wildlife health management of the Region are coordinated.
